About the Role

A Kelly Engineering client in Humble, Texas, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to provide hands-on engineering support within a manufacturing environment. This role focuses on resolving production issues and ensuring operations continue smoothly. It is an engineering support position, not a technician or design-focused role. You will be a key resource for manufacturing when mechanical or engineering issues arise, responsible for investigating problems, determining solutions, and coordinating corrective actions. The ideal candidate is capable of making sound engineering decisions in a fast-paced production setting without requiring constant escalation to the design engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day engineering support to manufacturing, troubleshooting production issues, and answering technical questions.
  • Investigate manufacturing defects, nonconformances, material substitutions, and deviations from engineering requirements.
  • Perform root-cause analysis to identify issue origins and recommend or implement corrective actions.
  • Evaluate technical issues and determine appropriate solutions within established engineering procedures and approval guidelines.
  • Coordinate engineering decisions and ensure accurate completion of required documentation, revisions, and change records.
  • Identify recurring production problems and develop longer-term solutions for prevention.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to identify opportunities for improving product manufacturability and engineering standards.
  • Support initial production builds, special orders, and the implementation of engineering changes.
  • Monitor outstanding production issues, prioritize requests, and communicate progress and potential risks to relevant teams.
  • Recognize and escalate issues involving safety, regulatory compliance, product integrity, or customer requirements.

Requirements & Tech Stack

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical engineering drawings, technical specifications, and bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Understanding of engineering revisions, documentation, and formal change-control processes.
  • Experience troubleshooting technical or manufacturing-related problems and identifying root causes.
  • Strong engineering judgment and the ability to make timely decisions in a production environment.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work across manufacturing, quality, engineering, and supply chain teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience providing engineering support in a manufacturing environment, particularly with electrical equipment, switchgear, or industrial products.
  • Experience evaluating nonconformances, engineering deviations, and material substitutions.
  • Background in corrective and preventive action (CAPA) or continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience supporting first-build activities, production changes, or new product introductions.
  • Ability to work independently and resolve production issues with minimal oversight.
