Mechanical Engineer
Applied Materials
About the Role
Applied Materials is a global leader in materials science and engineering solutions for semiconductor chips and advanced displays. This role as a Mechanical Engineer will leverage a strong foundation in physics, mathematics, and materials science to process and resolve mechanical problems, design and implement custom mechanical tooling and associated processes, and enable the handling, assembly, and disassembly of parts, components, sub-assemblies, and final assemblies throughout the product life cycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Design mechanical components and modules for AR waveguide-related manufacturing and inspection equipment.
- Test and verify the feasibility of new concepts or approaches.
- Troubleshoot and improve third-party tools for manufacturing lines with minimum mechanical engineering guidance.
- Follow all safety protocols and implement safety certificates, such as Semi-S2 and CE, to final products.
- Communicate technical ideas and concepts to other mechanical engineers and non-mechanical engineers.
- Interface with internal and external customers to understand and solve issues.
- Design/model mechanical modules and components, such as motion components, waveguide handling modules, and vacuum/CDA/liquid delivery modules.
- Perform CAE/CAM/CAD analysis and interpret data for newly designed and existing systems/components/parts.
- Generate drawings per internal and relevant industrial standards.
- Select suitable OEM products and communicate with suppliers for implementation into equipment.
- Communicate with machine shops and other OEM suppliers to procure designed parts.
- Assemble and test designed products and purchased equipment, collect and analyze data, and provide feedback for design improvement.
- Document the design process and present it to internal/external customers, aligning on direction.
- Document procedures and train users for newly designed products.
- Prepare documents and datasets for safety certificates, such as Semi-S2 and CE.
- Support startups and field issues regarding designed products.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Fluent in 3D CAD software, ideally Siemens NX.
- Design and draw equipment-related parts, modules, and assemblies per ASME Y14.5M standard.
- Familiarity with design for function, reliability, serviceability, manufacturability, and cosmetic requirements.
- Solid hands-on ability to integrate, debug/troubleshoot, and demonstrate robust solutions in an engineering lab environment.
Qualifications
- Education and Experience:
- MS for fresh graduate candidates.
- BS + 3 years of experience in mechanical engineering or a related engineering field.
- Engineering Skills and Problem-Solving Skills:
- Experience with physics, mathematics, and materials science.
- Interpersonal Skills:
- Fluent in English conversation.
- Fluent in technical communication with data, models, and ideas.
- Fluent in technical reporting and documentation.
