About the Role
Assist the Lead Mechanical Engineers in the design, engineering, procurement, and product life cycle management of large-scale custom manufactured industrial equipment. Work closely with other internal teams and departments to support safe, efficient, and high-quality project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the design of process piping systems, including routing, sizing, materials selection, and pipe supports.
- Design process ductwork systems.
- Review customer specifications, project requirements, applicable codes, industry standards, and regulatory requirements to develop compliant mechanical and process system designs and validate engineering analyses.
- Develop process flow diagrams, P&IDs, and associated engineering documentation to support detailed design, fabrication, procurement, and construction.
- Evaluate process equipment layouts, general arrangements, utility requirements, and system interfaces to support safe, efficient, and integrated facility designs.
- Provide technical direction and design guidance to designers in developing fabrication and construction drawing packages.
- Review Issued for Approval (IFA) and Issued for Manufacture (IFM) drawing packages for technical accuracy, quality, and compliance with project requirements.
- Evaluate, select, and specify equipment, components, piping systems, valves, instrumentation, and support systems based on technical requirements, performance objectives, and lifecycle considerations.
- Coordinate with project electrical engineers on the design of power distribution systems, power panels, and control panels.
- Perform engineering calculations, analyses, investigations, troubleshooting, and root cause analyses using methods such as FEA, CFD, thermal analysis, and vibration analysis to support mechanical, structural, fluid, thermal, and process designs and resolve manufacturing, operational, and reliability issues.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering is required.
- Entry level up to five (5) years of experience in Mechanical Engineering
- AutoCAD and drafting experience preferred.
- Experience developing drawings for fabrication of piping systems is preferred.
- Experience with selection and specification of pumps, support equipment and/or HVAC equipment is preferred.
- Knowledge of typical piping and piping component materials and appropriate applications is preferred.
- Ability to manage time and efforts towards completing designs on time and within budgets is required.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are required.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
- Computer skills and an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows based programs are required.
Work Environment
Work is performed in an uncontrolled atmosphere. Exposure to harsh conditions—such as dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and varying weather and temperatures—for short periods is possible. All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk and hear.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs. regularly is required.
- Exposure to moving parts and electricity that require safety protocols.
