Engineering Leader

About the Role

Barry-Wehmiller is a diversified global supplier of engineering consulting and manufacturing technology. We are seeking an Engineering Leader to provide leadership oversight for the GCC Engineering flex pool. This role ensures engineering resources are deployed effectively across multiple global divisions while maintaining the agreed scope, operating intent, and stakeholder commitments of the flex team model.

Key Responsibilities

• Resource Allocation and Delivery: Oversee flex pool deployment, ensuring required Mechanical, Electrical, and Controls Engineering capacity is available and aligned to priorities. Establish delivery governance through front-line leaders accountable for technical issue resolution, quantity of work, quality of outputs, and timely escalation.
• Bench Strength Ownership: Drive monthly demand-planning cadence with platforms and partner with recruiting to sustain available capacity through proactive team build-out with efficient forecasting and demand planning. Partner with engineering leaders to plan cohort size, composition, and deployment for recruitment needs.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Partner with platform engineering leaders and internal front-line leaders to anticipate flex resource demand, confirm scope and priorities, and provide regular updates on capacity, commitments, delivery health, and stakeholder risks.
• Team Leadership and Capability Building: Build organizational capability by developing front-line leaders, enabling them to coach flex engineers, manage technical readiness, and ensure consistent execution. Use a skills matrix to maintain visibility to team capability, coverage gaps, readiness levels, and deployment suitability. Partner on recruitment, onboarding, and training.
• Governance and Reporting: Own allocation governance, billing visibility, stakeholder commitment tracking, monthly reporting, headcount forecasts, and core flex team utilization metrics. Contribute to GCC dashboards (utilization, attrition, skills coverage, project allocation). Support continuous improvement and standardization of engineering processes.
• GCC Integration and Culture: Role-model GCC identity, ensuring fairness and transparency in cross-platform assignments. Encourage knowledge-sharing and collaboration.

Technical and Operational Leader Capability

• Seeking an experienced engineering leader with a strong understanding of mechanical engineering delivery and cross-platform stakeholder management.
• Requires sufficient technical breadth to engage credibly with platform leaders and front-line technical leaders, while relying on designated front-line leaders for detailed technical decisions and deliverable ownership.
• Proven people leadership, governance discipline, and the ability to manage delivery commitments through front-line leaders while maintaining clear visibility to execution health.
• Experience managing distributed teams, external partners, or shared-service delivery models is important.
• Demonstrates a strong learning mindset and proven experience developing front-line leaders.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

• Working knowledge of discrete machine design, engineering workflows, CAD-based delivery environments, FEA concepts, and global engineering standards.
• Exposure to industrial machinery design, installation, commissioning, and practical engineering constraints.
• Certifications such as PMP or Six Sigma Black Belt will be considered an advantage.
