Prompt Engineer

About the Role

Prompt Engineer at Tata Consultancy Services, based in Bangalore/Hyderabad.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize prompts for LLMs, AI agents, Copilots, and conversational AI solutions.
• Create reusable prompt templates, prompt libraries, and best practices for enterprise use.
• Conduct prompt testing, evaluation, and refinement to improve response quality, accuracy, and consistency.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders, AI Architects, Data Scientists, and AI Engineers to translate business requirements into effective AI interactions.
• Implement prompt engineering techniques such as Zero-shot, Few-shot, Chain-of-Thought, Role-based, and Instruction-based prompting.
• Define and maintain AI guardrails, safety controls, and Responsible AI guidelines.
• Analyze prompt performance metrics and continuously improve AI solution effectiveness.
• Support development of AI assistants, Copilot extensions, RAG-based solutions, and Agentic AI workflows.
• Create documentation, knowledge repositories, and training materials for prompt engineering practices.
• Stay current with emerging AI models, prompting strategies, and industry trends.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Strong understanding of Generative AI, LLMs, AI Agents, and Copilot platforms.
• Experience with OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Microsoft Copilot Studio, Anthropic Claude, Gemini, or similar platforms.
• Knowledge of Prompt Engineering frameworks and optimization techniques.
• Understanding of RAG, embeddings, vector databases, grounding, and AI evaluation methodologies.
• Familiarity with Python, REST APIs, and AI development workflows.
• Understanding of Responsible AI, governance, security, and compliance requirements.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of IT experience with at least 1+ year in Generative AI or Prompt Engineering.
• Relevant certifications in Generative AI, Azure AI, OpenAI, Copilot, or equivalent preferred.
