Mechanical Engineer, Quantum AI
About the Role
Join a team developing custom silicon solutions for Google's direct-to-consumer products, shaping the next generation of hardware experiences. As a Mechanical Engineer on the Neutral Atom Quantum team, you will tackle complex design problems in the creation of neutral-atom apparatus. These systems involve precision optomechanical mounts, ultrahigh vacuum chambers, custom mechanical mounting, and electromagnetics. You will collaborate with research scientists, assist with design development, implementation, and vendor management, and perform component machining where necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with a cross-functional team to evaluate mechanical system requirements and develop solutions.
- Perform mechanical design and analysis using internal software tools.
- Interface with vendors to facilitate fabrication and procurement of mechanical components.
- Carry out machining modifications and simple component fabrication.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Electrical Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 2 years of mechanical design or mechanical design analysis.
- 2 years of experience developing mechanical system solutions.
- 2 years of experience working in a mechanical engineering technical environment, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
- Experience working with related technologies, including optomechanical systems, ultrahigh vacuum systems, or high-stability scientific equipment.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment with high levels of uncertainty, rapidly incorporating evolving information to inform and modify design process and strategy.
