Associate Software Engineer
Sandisk
About the Role
Sandisk is hiring an AI-native junior developer to join the consumer companion app team, built in Flutter. This is a junior role designed for individuals who have internalized AI tools as a core part of their software development process. New college graduates are welcome. Mentorship will be provided by senior Flutter developers.
Key Responsibilities
- Ship features and bug fixes in the Sandisk consumer Flutter app, with senior engineers reviewing your work.
- Use AI coding agents as a daily driver for exploration, scaffolding, refactoring, test generation, and learning the codebase.
- Write clear specs and prompts, treating prompt engineering as a real engineering skill.
- Verify what AI tools produce, read the diff, run tests, and understand every line committed before review.
- Ramp on Flutter, Dart, and the team's architecture quickly, with senior support and AI-assisted learning.
- Share learnings by bringing new AI workflows, MCP servers, custom agents, and tooling tricks back to the team.
- Take ownership of tasks made tractable for a junior by AI tools, such as test coverage, refactors, documentation, and dependency hygiene.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- AI-native development approach, demonstrated through side projects, shipped work, or workflows.
- Healthy skepticism of AI output; ability to verify, test, and read code before trusting it.
- A clear point of view on the future of AI-assisted development and the ability to articulate it.
- Solid programming fundamentals in at least one modern language; ability to read, reason about, and debug code.
- Hunger to learn Flutter quickly.
- Comfort working async in a distributed team: strong written English, clear PR descriptions, and thoughtful commit messages.
- Self-direction: ability to take a fuzzy task, sharpen it with AI tools, ask clarifying questions, and ship.
- Familiarity with AI coding agents like Claude Code, Cursor, and agentic workflows.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Math, Computer Science, Physics, or a related degree.
- Flutter and Dart (learning is expected).
Preferred Qualifications
- A GitHub, blog, or portfolio showcasing AI-assisted projects.
- Experience with Claude Code, Cursor, agent frameworks, or building with the Claude or OpenAI APIs.
- Any mobile development exposure (Flutter, React Native, native iOS/Android).
- Contributions to AI tooling, MCP servers, custom slash commands, or developer workflow projects.
