About the Role

Seeking an energetic, highly motivated Hardware Engineer with excellent engineering skills for designing single-board computers for embedded electronics applications. The successful candidate should have a strong working knowledge of analog and digital circuit design, embedded system architecture, schematic capture using PCB CAD tools, and FPGA and CPLD logic design. Eager to learn new technologies in embedded electronics and contribute with minimal training. Two experienced engineers are sought who can hit the ground running with schematic capture and electronic design. Candidates with varying levels of experience will be considered, with responsibilities and growth opportunities aligned with their technical expertise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, verify, and document systems and components for rugged handheld electronics, from concept through production.
  • Capture customer requirements and define hardware solutions, test plans, and verification plans to meet customer specifications.
  • Use CAD tools for schematic capture and perform timing and signal integrity simulations.
  • Create net rules and routing constraints, and work with placement and layout engineers to create PCB fabrication files.
  • Design and simulate digital logic for programmable logic devices (FPGA, CPLD) using vendor-supplied software tools.
  • Evaluate, select, and create models for electronic components to meet project requirements.
  • Test and validate developed hardware, and participate in production testing, safety, EMC, and MIL-Spec certification.
  • Interface with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical, software, systems, supply chain, and sales, to manage electronic design and manufacturing tradeoffs.

Requirements & Tech Stack

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 8+ years of related electronic circuit design experience preferred; candidates with less experience may be considered based on technical capabilities.
  • Experience with microprocessor-based, high-speed PCB design and CAD tools.
  • Familiarity with a variety of test bench equipment.
  • Strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Eligibility to work on ITAR projects as a U.S. person.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with Xpedition or Altium CAD tools.
  • Experience with Keysight ADS simulation tools.
  • FPGA development tools and Verilog or VHDL.
  • Experience with ARM and x86 microprocessor and microcontroller designs.
  • Experience with microprocessor-based designs, including platforms from NXP, Intel, Qualcomm, or MediaTek.
  • Design verification, testing, and documentation experience.
  • U.S. citizenship.

Additional Opportunities

  • Opportunity to work on a wide range of embedded electronics and hardware design projects.
  • Potential for future growth into a group management or leadership role for candidates with significant experience and leadership capabilities.
  • Productive collaboration with experienced engineering professionals.
  • Opportunity to contribute to challenging projects from concept through production.

Work Location

  • This is an on-site position in Rockville, Maryland.
  • Candidates from outside the local area may be considered if they are willing to relocate.
  • Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.
