Engineer, Tax Technology

About the Role

As an Engineer on the Taxes, Fees & Finance Enablement team, you will contribute to critical applications and services across Target’s Tax Technology landscape. You will work with high-volume transactional systems, complex data flows, third-party tax platforms, and enterprise integrations while helping modernize existing applications and architecture. You will partner with Tax, Finance, Product, and Engineering teams to ensure our systems provide timely, complete, accurate, and reliable tax information. You will help improve resiliency and scalability, incorporate appropriate controls, and make technology decisions with lifecycle management and total cost of ownership in mind.

Key Responsibilities

• Apply and build engineering skills by solving technical problems and delivering high-quality software.
• Balance the delivery of new features with writing reliable, maintainable, and well-tested code.
• Troubleshoot and resolve operational issues with little or no oversight.
• Participate in code reviews to maintain software quality and functional accuracy.
• Deepen understanding of product, system design, and architecture.
• Actively participate in engineering discussions and team ceremonies.

Qualifications

• A 4-year degree or equivalent experience.
• 1+ years of software development experience with at least one full cycle implementation.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java/Kotlin.
• Strong understanding of application architecture, system design, distributed programming, data structures, event-driven architectures, and modern engineering practices.
• Familiarity with current and emerging technologies and the ability to evaluate and apply them appropriately.
• Commitment to maintaining technical and domain knowledge through formal training and self-directed education.

Nice to Have:

• Front-end experience with technologies such as React and Redux.
