Product Management Apprentice
Liminal
About the Role
Product Management Apprentice
You're the translator between what a founder dreams, what a user needs, and what can actually be built before the money runs out. This three-way negotiation is the entire job.
What Liminal Is
A Founders' Studio that co-builds with repeat founders, providing build expertise, capital, and access from founding to Series B.
What This Role Actually Is
Product management is the discipline of making the right bets under radical uncertainty and then shipping them. You'll work across our ventures from the earliest moments, turning founder conviction into something people can use, pay for, and rely on. You need to be fluent in three languages simultaneously:
- What users actually need versus what they say they need.
- What's technically feasible versus what the pitch deck promises.
- What the business can sustain versus what the founder dreams about.
The Work
- Research and discovery: Deep market research, user interviews, competitive analysis, and technology landscape mapping to surface non-obvious insights and reframe the problem space.
- Product vision and ideation: Work with founders to shape product direction, features, value propositions, and roadmaps, turning sprawling ideas into scoped, sequenced plans with clear trade-offs.
- Validation and experimentation: Prototype, test, and iterate. Run experiments with real users and kill ideas when the evidence dictates.
- MVP build and launch: Coordinate with engineering and design to scope, build, and ship. You own the connective tissue between vision and execution.
- AI fluency: Actively curious about how AI tools reshape product development, applying it as a practical lens daily.
Who You Are
- Structured thinking under ambiguity: Decompose ill-defined problems into testable hypotheses and clear next steps. Frameworks are tools, not crutches. You are thrilled by the challenge of a founder with a world-changing obsession and a blank Figma file, with no existing product, usage data, or prior versions to iterate on.
- Real analytical chops: Spreadsheet-brained enough to model trade-offs and interrogate data without self-deception. You know the difference between a metric that matters and a vanity number.
- User empathy without user worship: Triangulate across what people say, what they do, and what they need.
- Sharp communication: A tight one-pager beats a sprawling PRD. You can explain trade-offs clearly to founders, engineers, and investors, calibrated to their interests.
- Contrarian streak: Independent thinker, using first principles and unafraid of unpopular positions, including telling a founder their roadmap is wrong. You believe in open debate and know how to disagree and commit.
