About the Role

Northrop Grumman's Mechanical Engineering Energetics team is hiring an Engineer Propulsion - Level 2/3 professional. This role will support a family of launch vehicles, performing various ordnance, pneumatic, hydraulic, and motor analysis & integration activities. The position involves generating performance predictions, conducting component and system level testing, dispositioning nonconforming hardware, performing field site integration, reviewing post-flight data, and leading anomaly investigations as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis, design, or test of one or more moderately complex materials (including energetics), structural components, and control systems for propulsion systems.
  • Apply engineering principles, industry standards, company standards, and customer requirements to develop propulsion systems for application in launch vehicles, missile systems, and space mission systems.
  • Select applicable analytical data from previous products, determine the technical principles involved, mathematically define the problem, and compute engineering characteristics consistent with specifications, design needs, and requirements of other product portions.
  • Coordinate strategy for developing and leveraging multi-disciplinary design, optimization, and analysis processes to support mission requirements.
  • Define and coordinate the conduct of testing required to evaluate design work.
  • Perform hands-on test support of pneumatic and hydraulic components and systems through functional and environmental testing.
  • Perform responsible engineer duties leading the Integrated Product Team of a medium-sized subcontract, coordinating supplier change notifications, non-conformances, hardware acceptance reviews, etc.
  • Conduct pre-launch engineering reviews, examining as-built vehicle hardware, pre-launch data, assessing flight readiness, and working with flight field teams.
  • Conduct trade studies and evaluate alternative designs.
  • Based on broadly defined problems, study basic design concepts and criteria for complex materials, components, or functional systems and apply engineering principles to develop new designs.
  • Anticipate customer needs and find innovative ways to provide for those needs.
  • Originate and develop constructive ideas, consistently looking for ways to modify or change existing methods or processes to improve outcomes.
  • Determine engineering tasks required for project planning and execution; analyze project requirements and develop detailed planning, conceptual designs, and risk analysis.
  • Interact with internal and external customers; assist the customer in defining system requirements and in the generation of specifications for products or subsystems.
  • Develop and present materials for project-related briefings, including design reviews for internal and external customers.
  • Support new business and prepare proposal material.
  • Travel up to 10% of the time to supplier and launch facilities.
