Product Management Apprentice
Liminal
About the Role
The Product Management Apprentice role at Liminal involves acting as a translator between founder vision, user needs, and technical feasibility within the context of a Founders' Studio. You will work on ventures from their earliest stages, turning founder convictions into usable, valuable, and reliable products. This role requires fluency in understanding user needs versus stated needs, technical feasibility versus pitch deck promises, and business sustainability versus founder aspirations.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and discovery: Conduct deep market research, user interviews, competitive analysis, and technology landscape mapping to surface non-obvious insights and reframe problem spaces.
- Product vision and ideation: Collaborate with founders to define product direction, features, value propositions, and roadmaps, translating whiteboard sessions into scoped, sequenced plans with articulated trade-offs.
- Validation and experimentation: Prototype, test, and iterate products through experiments with real users, making data-driven decisions to discontinue ideas when necessary.
- MVP build and launch: Coordinate with engineering and design teams to scope, build, and ship Minimum Viable Products, owning the connection between vision and execution.
- AI fluency: Actively explore and apply AI tools to product development processes, including research synthesis, prototyping, and user testing.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Structured thinking under ambiguity: Ability to decompose ill-defined problems into testable hypotheses and clear next steps.
- Analytical chops: Proficiency in modeling trade-offs and interrogating data effectively.
- User empathy: Ability to triangulate insights from what people say, what they do, and what they need.
- Sharp communication: Skill in concise communication, tailoring explanations of trade-offs to different audiences (founders, engineers, investors).
- Contrarian streak: Independent thinking and the ability to form arguments from first principles, including expressing unpopular positions and committing to decisions after debate.
- Curiosity about AI: Practical application of AI tools in product development.
Qualifications
- Experience in product management through an unusual background is a plus (e.g., healthcare, PhD, failed founder).
- Willingness to learn product management by doing at the zero-to-one stage.
The apprenticeship is a twelve-month program with a meaningful stipend.
