2027 State and Local Tax (SALT) Intern

About the Role

Internship program designed for students currently pursuing a degree and planning to return to school following the internship.

Key Responsibilities

• Providing tax consulting services specific to state and local taxes, including income, franchise, sales and use, gross receipts and personal property taxes.
• Preparing tax returns such as state and local income and franchise tax returns.
• Writing internal and external tax alerts on current tax developments and emerging planning techniques.
• Researching complex tax issues and providing conclusions via writing technical memorandum or verbally.
• Developing meaningful interactions with staff at all levels as well as with clients.
• Deepen knowledge in state and local tax as well as other taxes, including federal tax.
• Participating in various training programs to enhance tax knowledge.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in accounting; or a Master's degree in accounting or tax.
• Completed the first two entry-level accounting courses and currently enrolled in the first intermediate level accounting course.
• Must be pursuing a LLM, JD, or CPA license.
• Detail-oriented leader with problem solving, communication, and analytical skills.
• Academic success with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
• Candidates who will complete their degree requirements before or during the internship are encouraged to apply for entry-level opportunities.
• This is a non-exempt position.
• May require work hours that exceed the standard 40-hour work week.
• May require some local, national, and occasional international travel.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship, with the exception of qualified candidates who are bilingual in either Japanese and English or Chinese and English.

Qualifications

• Accounting or Tax degree emphasis (Bachelor's or Master's).
• Successful completion of foundational accounting coursework.
• Pursuit of LLM, JD, or CPA license.
• Minimum 3.0 GPA.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and analytical skills.
