QA Intern, Manual & API Testing
THE ORANGE COMM
About TOCH
TOCH is a cross-platform encrypted chat application built with Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP), targeting Android, iOS, and Desktop. It utilizes the Signal Protocol for end-to-end encryption, WebSocket-based real-time messaging, WebRTC calls, and a Go microservices backend.
Role Overview
This is a hands-on role for a motivated QA Intern eager to learn manual and API testing in a fast-paced, real-world product environment. You will work alongside experienced engineers to test a multi-platform chat app, covering messaging, calls, encryption, and media.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute manual test cases for chat, calling, media sharing, and notification features on Android and iOS devices.
- Learn and perform API testing using Postman or similar tools: send requests, validate responses, and check error handling.
- Test WebSocket-based real-time events (message delivery, typing indicators, online status).
- Verify app behavior across different network conditions (offline, slow network, reconnection).
- Log detailed bug reports with clear reproduction steps, screenshots, and device/OS details.
- Help maintain and update the regression test suite.
- Participate in daily standups and sprint ceremonies.
- Assist in exploratory testing before releases.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of software testing concepts (test cases, bug lifecycle, regression testing).
- Familiarity with REST APIs (HTTP methods, status codes, JSON payloads).
- Exposure to API testing tools like Postman.
- Ability to use Android and iOS devices for testing (installing builds, capturing logs).
- Eagerness to learn, ask questions, and take ownership of assigned tasks.
- Good written communication skills.
Bonus Points
- Personal projects or coursework involving mobile app testing.
- Basic knowledge of databases (SQL queries).
- Awareness of messaging app features.
- Familiarity with version control (Git basics).
- Any exposure to WebSocket or real-time application concepts.
- ISTQB Foundation Level certification or equivalent coursework.
