About the Role
MercyOne is seeking a Retail Pharmacy Tech Trainee for a full-time, day shift position. This role involves assisting in the provision of pharmaceutical care to patients of all ages under the supervision of a pharmacist.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the provision of pharmaceutical care to patients ranging in age from newborns to geriatrics.
- Tasks require a moderate amount of independent judgment, an advanced level of technical knowledge, and a high degree of accuracy.
Schedule
- Rotating shifts and hours may vary between the two campuses.
- Standard hours: 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM; Monday - Friday
- Saturday hours: 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Competent and accurate with performing math calculations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, divisions, percentages, fractions, and the metric system.
- Ability to exercise professional judgment in dealing with pharmacy customers.
- Competent and thorough in performing job functions for all age groups.
- Satisfactory customer relation skills consistent with Mercy’s mission, values, and expectations.
- Behavior consistent with Pharmacy Citizenship Standards.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and function in an environment with multiple stress factors.
- Competent with all hospital and pharmacy information system programs utilized by the pharmacy.
Qualifications
- Must be 17 years of age or older.
- Eligible to sit for the national technician certification exam within 1 year of hire.
- Registration with Iowa Board of Pharmacy prior to start of employment.
- Pass the test for and maintain national technician certification as outlined by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy within 1 year of employment. Failure to pass within 1 year will result in termination from the trainee position.
- Typing, clerical, and science background are desirable.
- A minimum of three months of “on the job” training is required to perform the job; 12-24 months is usually required to become proficient.
