About the Role

As a ShopBack intern, you will do real work and deliver real impact. You will ship code that goes to production and is used by millions of members globally. You will orchestrate and build with AI agents from day one.

What You'll Own

  • Ship real features. Own a scoped project from design to production, with mentor support.
  • Build with AI as a teammate. Use coding agents to move fast, and learn to review, test, and verify their output.
  • Make AI tools for others. Build a skill, tool, or agent workflow that your team continues to use after your internship.
  • Measure, don't guess. Write evals and tests to prove that your AI-powered work is effective.

Essentials To Succeed

  • Good fundamentals: ability to write clean code, familiarity with design patterns, understanding of data structures, APIs, and testing.
  • Experience building things outside of class: side projects, hackathons, open source, or freelance work.
  • Applied AI experience: built an app on an LLM API, a custom agent or MCP server, automated a task end-to-end, or used an eval to compare prompts or models.
  • Curiosity and skepticism: ability to question AI answers and verify them.
  • Fast learning: eagerness to learn new things and comfort in asking questions when unfamiliar.

Tell Us About Show Us What You Built with AI

  • The coolest one: The project you are most proud of, or one that surprised people.
  • Or the hardest one: A project that faced significant challenges before success.

For each project, explain:

  • The problem: what you aimed to solve and why it mattered.
  • What you built: your solution compared to what AI provided.
  • What broke: AI failures and how you diagnosed and fixed them.
  • The result: a link to a repo, demo, video, or write-up. A functional result with imperfections is preferred over polished slides. Start with real problems; a personal agent saving 10 minutes daily is more valuable than an unbuilt grand idea.

Bonus Points

  • Agents: Built an agent that uses tools, maintains memory, or runs multi-step processes without human intervention.
  • Evals: Wrote evals or tests to measure AI output improvement.
  • Real users: Shipped a project used by people other than yourself.
  • Cloud: Deployed your project to a cloud platform.

Technologies You'll Touch

  • TypeScript / Node.js
  • Postgres
  • Kafka
  • Kubernetes
  • GitLab
  • Datadog
  • Claude Code
  • MCP
