Learning Center program Activity Leader

About the Role

This position is responsible for facilitating academic and social-emotional learning experiences for students in kindergarten through 5th grade. Activity Leaders create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment where all students are supported in their growth and development. They build strong, positive relationships with students, families, and community partners to help each child realize their unique path to success.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead a variety of engaging, hands-on activities such as project-based learning, cooking, gardening, physical education, and art.
• Facilitate academic and social-emotional learning experiences.
• Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment.
• Support student growth and development.
• Build strong, positive relationships with students, families, and community partners.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Reliable, energetic, and committed to helping all students succeed.
• Ability to maintain ODJFS standards for employees and program operation.
• Must pass an FBI and BCI fingerprinted background check.
• Ability to obtain and maintain driving privileges per Salvation Army insurance standards (if driving is a requirement).

Qualifications

• An understanding of and passion for The Salvation Army’s Mission.
• Experience working with children in educational or youth development settings, preferred.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to lead and manage small groups of children aged 6 to 13 years old.
• Passion for education, creativity, and community engagement.
• Current certification in CPR/first aid, preferred.

Classification: Part-Time, Non-Exempt, 25 hours/week (1:30 – 6:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, during the school year).

Full-time availability required for 10-12 weeks in the summer (M-F, 9:00-4:00).

Salary: $17.50 per hour.
