Production Systems Engineering Intern

About the Role

Meta builds technologies that help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses. This 12-week internship is based in Menlo Park, CA, and focuses on Production Systems Engineering within Meta's Infrastructure organization. The team supports servers that run Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and AI accelerator systems. Interns will investigate server failures and contribute to durable fixes. The internship project will focus on one of the following areas: in-depth hardware root cause analysis, automation for faster debugging and triage, hardware diagnostics, or datasets and pipelines for anomaly detection.

Key Responsibilities

• Learn how Meta's servers are designed, including component functions and interconnections.
• Familiarize with internal systems for server provisioning, health checks, and fault remediation.
• Investigate production server failures and trace them to a root cause.
• Build software to accelerate hardware failure detection and fixing, such as triage automation, hardware diagnostics, or anomaly-detection pipelines.
• Own project lifecycle from design to rollout, collaborating with engineers, documenting work, and presenting results.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Programming experience in Python.
• Coursework or project experience in distributed systems, computer networks, or computer architecture.
• Experience working in a Linux environment.
• Familiarity with server architecture (CPUs, GPUs, memory, storage, interconnects like PCIe or NVLink).
• Experience building tools for debugging, monitoring, or operations, including personal or class projects.
• Experience analyzing large datasets or system telemetry with SQL or Python data tools.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a full-time degree program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Expected graduation date after the internship.
• Availability for a 12-week internship onsite in Menlo Park during summer 2027.
• Preferred: Experience debugging hardware or low-level software (firmware, drivers, Linux kernel).
