Integration and Test Engineer, Electrical
Anduril Industries
About the Role
Anduril is seeking an Integration and Test Engineer with a strong electrical focus to join the Maneuver Dominance team at our Costa Mesa HQ to help develop and scale our Hardware-In-The-Loop (HITL) capabilities. This role will focus on the design, build, and sustainment of HITLs including but not limited to overall system architecture, procurement, harness diagrams, breakout box designs, switching mechanisms, PCB designs, and test troubleshooting. You will work at the intersection of simulation, hardware integration, software development, and system-level testing to enable reliable and repeatable testing on physical systems.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and maintain the HITL/Ironbird electrical infrastructure that bridges simulation software to Hardware-In-The-Loop testing.
- Develop system architecture including harness diagrams, breakout boxes, switching mechanisms, and PCB designs.
- Support part procurement, physical stand-up, configuration, and maintenance of open-loop and closed-loop HITLs, and the integration of hardware, compute, networking, sensors, and other components.
- Troubleshoot and resolve real-time simulation issues during HITL operations, including timing constraints, hardware interface problems, and model fidelity discrepancies.
- Develop diagnostics and telemetry debug capabilities for visibility into system state and efficient troubleshooting of integration and test failures.
- Coordinate harness build and other electrical tasks with electrical engineering technicians.
- Develop fault-injection capabilities for controlled failures and degraded conditions.
- Develop configuration management tracking tools to maintain consistent and reproducible HITL configurations.
- Automate HITL health checks, setup, configuration, deployment, and test execution.
- Understand and contribute to HITL software architecture and test framework.
- Establish testing best practices for HITL systems.
- Work closely with software, systems, simulation, and hardware engineers to identify and resolve integration and test issues.
- Act with a strong safety mindset (“Stop, Think, Do”) while operating in prototype and experimental environments.
- Follow established procedures and identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, and efficiency.
Required Qualifications and Attributes
- Bachelor’s Degree (or similar) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace/Aeronautics Engineering, Computer Science, or similar.
- Experience architecting, developing, and sustaining HITL/Ironbird labs for Group 4 or 5 UAS, aerospace, or defense vehicle integration and test environments.
- Hands-on skillset debugging within a lab space with oscilloscopes, digital multi-meters, programmable power supplies, electronic loads, and other electrical test equipment.
- Experience using diagnostic and protocol analysis tools such as Saleae Logic Analyzers, Wireshark, PEAK-System CAN interfaces, or similar.
- Understanding of software/hardware interfaces, networking, and electrical bus protocols (CAN, Ethernet, RS-232/422/485, MIL-STD-1553).
- Experience leading and troubleshooting LRU-, subsystem-, system-level integration and bring-up of electrical systems, harnesses, and electro-mechanical assemblies.
- Experience designing harnesses, breakout boxes, simple PCBs, and switching mechanisms.
- Knowledge of safe lab practices with power, batteries, and ESD.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and engineering documentation.
- Experience developing configuration management processes for LRUs/harnesses, and test tools such as logging, diagnostics, and debug utilities.
- Strong debugging skills and the ability to troubleshoot issues across software and hardware boundaries.
- Ability to understand and contribute to HITL and test software frameworks.
- Familiarity in Python, C++, Linux, Github, and Jira.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and adapt quickly in a face-paced development environment.
- Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and communication skills.
- A sincere commitment to a positive, inclusive, and collaborative culture.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain a security clearance in United States, United Kingdom, or Australia desirable.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Nix.
