The Role
We are seeking students graduating in 2028 for a Summer 2027 internship, with the potential for a full-time product design role at Nominal after graduation. You will collaborate with designers, engineers, and product partners on a project addressing a real customer need, gaining experience in research, prototyping, and detailed design.
What You'll Do
- Translate complex, high-frequency, high-volume hardware data workflows into intuitive product experiences.
- Understand customer needs by observing workflows and identifying product improvement opportunities.
- Partner with design, engineering, and product to research, prototype with AI, and contribute to product improvements and features.
- Manage a scoped design project from exploration through detailed design, with mentorship.
- Participate in design critiques, incorporate feedback, and articulate design decisions.
- Contribute to our design system by applying existing patterns and improving components and documentation.
Requirements
- Graduating in 2028, seeking a Summer 2027 internship, and interested in a full-time product design role.
- A portfolio demonstrating visual design fundamentals and thoughtful problem-solving through academic, personal, or internship projects.
- Proficiency in design and prototyping tools to communicate ideas via flows, layouts, and interactive concepts.
- Curiosity about unfamiliar technical problems and a proactive approach to understanding user workflows.
- Openness to feedback and the ability to demonstrate its application to improve work.
Bonus Points
- Experience exploring AI tools for prototyping or testing design ideas.
- Prior work on data visualization, technical software, or hardware-related projects.
