Structural Engineer
Alignerr
About the Role
Alignerr is seeking structural and civil engineers to design, create, and evaluate AI training tasks rooted in real-world structural engineering challenges. You will be responsible for creating well-defined engineering challenges with a clear problem statement, a deterministic checker, and a reference solution.
- Organization: Alignerr
- Type: Hourly Contract
- Location: Remote
- Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
Key Responsibilities
- Design AI training tasks based on real structural engineering problems, including analysis, design, simulation, and code compliance.
- Write clear, precise problem statements to test an AI model's reasoning about structural behavior.
- Develop deterministic scoring checkers and reference solutions for each task.
- Build realistic, well-scoped tasks using your experience with OpenSees.
- Create tasks covering areas such as pushover analysis, seismic design, FEA modeling, reinforced concrete design, steel connection detailing, and structural retrofit.
- Evaluate AI-generated responses for technical accuracy, engineering soundness, and adherence to relevant standards (IS 456, IS 800, ACI 318, AISC, Eurocode).
- Provide structured, expert feedback to improve AI performance in the structural engineering domain.
- Work independently and asynchronously on your own schedule.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related field (BE/BTech required; ME/MTech or PhD is a plus).
- Applied experience in structural analysis and design using software and applying codes in practice.
- Proficient with OpenSees.
- Familiar with Indian and international design standards such as IS 456, IS 800, ACI 318, AISC 360, or Eurocode.
- Comfortable with concepts like pushover analysis, response spectrum analysis, nonlinear modeling, or performance-based design.
- Ability to formulate engineering problems clearly and write unambiguous problem statements.
- Detail-oriented, methodical, and self-motivated when working independently.
- Strong written communication skills in English.
Nice to Have
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) beyond commercial software, such as scripting in OpenSees Tcl/Python.
- Background in seismic assessment, retrofit design, or performance-based earthquake engineering.
- Familiarity with reinforcement learning, AI training workflows, or prompt engineering.
- Published research or professional project work in structural or earthquake engineering.
- Chartered Engineer (India) or equivalent professional registration.
- Experience mentoring, teaching, or creating educational engineering content.
