Full Stack Engineering Intern (Backend)

About the Role

Nyayasiddhi, an Indian legaltech company, is hiring a Full Stack Engineering Intern (Backend) to join their engineering team in India. This role is for an individual who prioritizes correctness and seeks to learn how production systems are built where mistakes have significant consequences.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build REST APIs in NestJS with strict input validation, structured error handling, and tests on critical paths.
• Model and query data in PostgreSQL using Drizzle ORM, focusing on transactions, indexing, and integrity.
• Read query plans, identify bottlenecks, and implement fixes to improve both database performance and API response times.
• Build with a focus on traceability and accountability, ensuring system behavior can be explained and defended.
• Participate in code reviews and collaborate closely with the wider engineering team.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Working knowledge of Node.js (TypeScript preferred).
• Solid grasp of REST design and HTTP fundamentals.
• Strong SQL skills: joins, indexes, transactions, query performance.
• Sound fundamentals in data structures, error handling, and clean code.
• Comfort with Git and pull-request workflows.
• Honesty about knowledge gaps and the drive to close them quickly.

Note: You do not need to be familiar with the company's stack already, but a commitment to building reliable systems is essential.

A Real Advantage If You Have

• Exposure to queues, event-driven design, or microservices (e.g., BullMQ).
• Docker, and comfort reading EXPLAIN ANALYZE output.
• Experience building software for professionals, particularly workflow-heavy systems requiring careful design.
• Shipped work used by people under real pressure, beyond personal side projects.

• Conversion: High performers may convert to paid roles after 3 months, based on reliability, code quality, edge-case handling, ownership, and collaboration.
