About the Role

As the Electrical Engineer at Anduril Industries, you will specify, design, develop, and install devices used to collect data on solid rocket motor burn performance. You will design custom electronic solutions, including PCBs, firmware, and FPGA code, needed to manufacture and test solid rocket motors, incorporating integrated safety-critical designs. This role involves configuring data collection systems and developing software applications for data collection. You may oversee technicians during instrumentation installation and rocket motor testing/development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with other engineers to develop accurate, efficient equipment and instrumentation in accordance with safety and usability standards and client expectations.
  • Execute the safe arming and initiation of rocket motors under test.
  • Design PCBA and electrical system components, with hands-on testing and rework as necessary.
  • Create detailed schematics and simulated models to test designs, optimizing for performance, reliability, and cost.
  • Oversee the implementation of new measuring devices and control systems, ensuring correct installation and proper testing.
  • Act as project engineer for design, prototype fabrication, and manufacturing development.
  • Develop required cable drawings to interface with various low- and high-voltage systems.
  • Draft and present formal technical documents, reports, and testing results.
  • Provide training related to devices to employees and/or customers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Tech Stack

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Proven experience in safety-critical hardware design, incorporating multi-fault tolerance, arm/fire inhibits, safe bleed-down circuits, and inadvertent initiation mitigation.
  • Experience in high-voltage PCB layout and circuit design for motor initiation, including capacitor charging/discharge circuits, high peak-current switching, and creepage/clearance management.
  • Experience with the design, development, and installation of sensors employed to collect data on system performance.
  • NI Labview or NI DAQmx experience, or familiarity with other COTS data acquisition systems.
  • Thorough understanding of signal conditioning for data acquisition (analog circuit design).
  • Intimate knowledge of the analog to digital conversion process (digital circuit design).
  • Ability to understand computer-controlled data acquisition and develop computer applications for data collection.
  • Ability to select correct sensors and design their placement to acquire needed solid rocket motor performance metrics.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficient with computer-aided design software.
  • Ability to write and understand Python.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in engineering.
  • Experience with circuit simulation tools (spice).
  • Experience using EDA tools such as Altium / OrCAD.
  • Familiar with real-time computer architectures and their OS’s.
