How to use it

  1. Type your pay in any box: hourly, weekly, every two weeks, monthly or yearly.
  2. Set your hours per week and weeks per year, and add overtime if you work it.
  3. Read the other boxes. Then compare your number with entry-level pay by field below.

How to convert hourly pay to salary

Multiply your hourly rate by the hours you work in a week, then by the weeks you are paid in a year. At 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, that is 2,080 hours: $20 an hour is about $41,600 a year, and $25 an hour is $52,000. To go the other way, divide the yearly salary by 2,080. Divide by 12 for a monthly figure, or by 26 for pay every two weeks.

What this calculator leaves out

The numbers are before taxes, so your take-home pay will be lower. If you work part-time, enter your real hours per week. If you are paid for fewer than 52 weeks, change the weeks per year. Overtime is counted at 1.5 times your hourly rate, which is the federal rule for hourly workers covered by overtime law. Salaried jobs usually don't pay overtime at all, so check the offer.
