Free ATS Resume Checker
Upload your resume to see how an applicant tracking system (ATS) reads it: a score out of 100, every problem, and exactly how to fix it. The full report is free, with no sign-up, and your file is read in your browser, never uploaded.
Your resume
How to use it
- Upload your resume as a PDF or Word file, or paste the text.
- Read your ATS score and fix the red items first: they cost the most points.
- Check it against a real job description to find the keywords that posting needs.
What this checker looks at
Readability: can the text be extracted at all (scanned and image resumes can't), are dates consistent, is it written in bullet points. Contact: email, phone, LinkedIn and your city and state, which many ATS searches filter on. Sections: standard headings (Experience, Education, Skills) that ATS parsers map automatically. Content: results with numbers, strong action verbs, no “I / my”, and the skills an ATS keyword search will find. Length: one page and roughly 400–700 words for someone with under five years of experience.
What an ATS actually does
Systems like Workday, Greenhouse, Lever, iCIMS and Taleo turn your resume into fields (name, jobs, dates, education, skills), then let recruiters search and rank applicants by keywords. A resume that doesn't parse cleanly, or that never uses the posting's words, sinks to the bottom of that search even if you're qualified. Most rejections aren't a robot saying no; they're a recruiter never finding you.
Frequently asked questions
Is this ATS resume checker really free?
Yes. The full score and every suggestion are free, with no sign-up and no limit. It runs in your browser, so we never see or store your resume.
What is a good ATS score?
80 or above means your resume parses cleanly and covers the basics. Then match it to each job description, because the keywords that matter change with every posting.
Can an ATS read a PDF resume?
Yes, if it's a text PDF exported from Word or Google Docs. Scanned PDFs, images and heavily designed templates with columns, icons or text boxes often come out garbled or empty.
Should my resume be one page?
For students, new grads and anyone with under five years of experience, yes. Recruiters skim for seconds, and one focused page reads better than two thin ones.
Does this checker compare my resume to a job?
This page checks the resume on its own. Use the free Resume vs Job Description Match tool to see your match percentage and missing keywords for a specific posting.
