How to use it
- Enter your name, the role and the company. Add the hiring manager's name if the posting gives one.
- Pick your situation (new grad, internship, career change or experienced) and a tone.
- Add two or three skills, one achievement and one reason you want this company. Or upload your resume and paste the job description, and we pick the skills you and the job share.
- Edit the letter, fill any [brackets], then copy it or download the .txt file.
What a good entry-level cover letter says
Keep it to three or four short paragraphs, under one page. Paragraph one: the exact job you're applying for and one sentence on why you fit. Paragraph two: two or three skills the posting asks for, with one real example or result. Numbers help, but only use true ones. Paragraph three: why this company, in one specific sentence. A line that could be pasted into any other letter is the line to cut. Paragraph four: a polite close and how to reach you.
Tips before you send it
Match the posting's words: if it says “data visualization”, use that phrase, not “making charts”. Name a person when you can. “Dear Ms. Rivera” beats “To whom it may concern”. Send a PDF unless the application says otherwise, and name the file with your name and the role. Proofread out loud. Then check your resume against the same job in the free resume match tool before you apply.
Frequently asked questions
Is this cover letter generator really free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no limit and no watermark. The letter is built in your browser from templates, so what you type is never sent anywhere.
Does this use AI?
No. It fills well-written templates with your details, which makes it instant and predictable. If you want a letter written from scratch by AI, try the AI cover letter writer, which has one free use a day.
How long should a cover letter be?
Between 200 and 350 words, and never more than one page. Recruiters skim, so three or four short paragraphs read better than a long story.
Do I need a cover letter for an entry-level job?
Often it is optional, and a short, specific letter still helps, especially when you have little experience and need to explain why you fit. Always send one when the posting asks.
Can I use the same letter for every job?
Reuse the structure, not the text. Change the role, company, skills and the one line about why you want the job each time. The generator makes that a two-minute task.
