PSYCHIATRIC TECHNICIAN APPRENTICE

About the Role

The Department of State Hospitals Napa (DSH-Napa) is seeking Psychiatric Technician Apprentices (PT Apprentices) to join our PT Apprenticeship Program (PTAP). This program offers training to provide care to California’s most vulnerable population. The PTAP is sponsored by the Joint Apprenticeship Committee (JAC).

Key Responsibilities

• Provide care to California’s most vulnerable population.
• Work 3,000 on the job training hours during the 21-month program.
• Participate in clinical rotations at other facilities.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Eligibility for enrollment in an accredited Psychiatric Technician Training Program (PTTP), evidenced by passage of required entrance examinations.
• High school graduation within the United States or equivalency.
• Mandatory participation in the C.N.A. Program.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) certification prior to enrollment in the PT Fast Track Program.
• Completion of the PT Fast Track Program, a 50.5-unit course taking 12 months through Napa Valley College. This course is accredited through the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT).

Qualifications

• Must complete the STD. 678 Employment Application.
• Resumes will not be accepted in lieu of information provided on STD. 678.
• Duties performed and Supervisor’s name and contact information must be completed on the STD. 678.
• Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
• Attach a copy of your high school diploma.
• If you have foreign transcripts, you will need to have them evaluated.
• Attach a copy of your C.N.A. certificate with your application.
• Passed the exam and meet requirements with Napa Valley College to apply for the DSH-Napa Psychiatric Technician Program.

The duration of the program is estimated to be 21 months.

Travel to other facilities will be required for clinical rotations. Travel fees will not be reimbursed.

Applications received after a cut-off date will be processed for the next cut-off.
