About the Role
Scotch Plains Montessori is an early childhood education center. This is a part-time, on-site Teacher Assistant role located in Scotch Plains, NJ. The Teacher Assistant supports lead teachers in Montessori classrooms.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare learning materials.
- Organize the environment.
- Assist with daily activities and routines.
- Guide children through academic and practical life tasks.
- Provide individualized support.
- Reinforce classroom expectations in a positive, respectful manner.
- Supervise children to ensure safety.
- Assist with transitions (arrival, dismissal, meals, outdoor play).
- Maintain a clean, orderly classroom.
- Communicate regularly with the teaching team.
- Follow school policies and Montessori practices.
- Participate in staff meetings and training as needed.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- High school diploma required.
- Coursework or degree in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred.
- Basic computer skills.
- Willingness to learn school procedures and safety protocols.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Assistant Teaching and Education.
- Interest in or familiarity with Montessori methods.
- Clear, professional Communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues and interact respectfully with children and families.
- Comfort supporting Mathematics and early academic skills in age-appropriate, engaging ways.
- Demonstrated experience Working With Children in group or classroom settings, with a patient and caring approach.
- Ability to follow classroom routines, take direction from lead teachers, and contribute positively to a team environment.
- Commitment to creating an inclusive, non-discriminatory environment that supports diverse backgrounds and learning needs.
