About Betasouls

Betasouls is an AI simulation company focused on autonomous virtual life and its environments. Their work combines engineering, interactive experiences, and systems to create virtual creatures with independent behaviors.

Role Overview

We are looking for a Unity Game & Simulation Intern with a foundation in Unity and C#, a passion for games, and an interest in how simulated worlds operate. The intern will collaborate with engineering and product teams to translate product and design concepts into functional interactive features. We value individuals who can ask insightful questions, decompose ambiguous requirements into manageable tasks, and guide ideas through implementation, testing, and iteration. This role is specifically for the Game / Simulation track.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate product and simulation requirements into clear engineering tasks, with team guidance.
  • Build and iterate on Unity features, game logic, creature behavior, and interactions between entities and their environment.
  • Connect simulation systems to interactive scenes and user-facing feedback.
  • Debug behavior, test edge cases, and improve performance and reliability.
  • Contribute to interface and system design discussions and document implementation decisions.
  • Collaborate with English- and Mandarin Chinese-speaking engineering and product stakeholders.

Requirements & Tech Stack

  • Practical Unity experience through coursework, personal projects, game jams, or previous work.
  • A foundation in C#, programming fundamentals, and structured problem-solving.
  • Ability to break complex or loosely defined requirements into concrete implementation steps.
  • Genuine interest in games, simulation, and how rules and individual behaviors shape an interactive world.
  • Ability to read technical materials and participate in technical and product discussions in Mandarin Chinese.
  • Clear communication and a willingness to write concise technical documentation.
  • Ability to work onsite in Irvine, California, for at least 20 hours per week.

Nice to Have

  • A playable Unity project, prototype, GitHub repository, or short development demo.
  • Experience with game AI, state machines, pathfinding, simulation, procedural systems, or real-time interaction.
  • Familiarity with Git, debugging, profiling, or automated testing.
  • An interest in game design, interaction design, or visual feedback.
  • Experience collaborating in a bilingual or distributed team.

What You’ll Gain

  • Hands-on experience developing game and simulation features.
  • Collaboration across engineering and product, from requirements to implementation and iteration.
  • Practice reasoning about system behavior, technical tradeoffs, and interactive experiences.
  • Opportunities to contribute ideas and learn through real development work.

Application Instructions

Please include your resume and, if available, a link to a project, repository, or short demo. Briefly describe what you built, your contributions, and your interest in AI simulation. Coursework and personal projects are welcome.

Work Authorization & Visa Support

  • CPT/OPT candidates are welcome.
  • Visa sponsorship is available, subject to individual eligibility and applicable requirements.
