About the Role
As a Software Engineer Intern (Summer 2027) on the Engineering team at Harvey, you will work alongside experienced engineers on projects that power our AI products. You will collaborate with Product, AI, Legal, and GTM teams to help build secure, intuitive systems that deliver real value to our customers. This 12 or 16-week internship is ideal for students who are curious, motivated, and excited to learn how modern application-layer and GenAI products are built. You will gain hands-on experience across the stack, contribute to real features, and see how your work impacts users in production. Harvey is hiring for Summer 2027 interns in New York and San Francisco across multiple teams and roles, including Frontend, Backend, Full-Stack, Infrastructure, and Applied AI intern roles. Your interests and experience will be factored into the team matching process.
What You'll Do
- Own a project end-to-end from coding and testing to deploying it to production, and presenting your work to peers and leaders across the company.
- Write clean, maintainable code that meets team standards. You will use AI-assisted development tools daily and own the quality of everything you ship.
- Build real knowledge of the systems you support and the users they serve, bringing that perspective into product discussions.
- Debug problems in your area, follow escalation procedures, and treat quality as urgent.
- Collaborate with your team through code review, pair programming, design reviews, and technical documentation.
- Depending on your team, you could work on retrieval over large document collections, interfaces for collaborating with AI systems, multi-region compute infrastructure, enterprise agents, or secure systems for sensitive client data. You'll also evaluate frontier models alongside senior engineers.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Java, Go, or similar languages.
- AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, Cursor).
- GenAI products.
- Modern application-layer products.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in computer science, engineering, or a related field with a graduation date of December 2027 or later.
- Able to work from our New York or San Francisco offices during the summer cohort. Relocation support is available.
- Previous internship experience is required.
- Strong technical foundation and solid general computer science knowledge.
- Decisiveness: Bias toward action; experience building something start-to-finish in coursework, a personal project, or a past internship.
- Simplicity: Ability to explain complex technical ideas in plain language; preference for the simplest working solution.
- Job's Not Finished: Proactively seek feedback, act on it, and push beyond technical completion.
- AI Forward: Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools and curious about building LLMs into your coding workflow. Internship experience specifically at an early-stage startup is a plus.
Compensation
- Pay: $62/hr - $72/hr in San Francisco and New York.
