About the Role

MITRE is a nonprofit engineering, applied research, and advanced technology organization working in the public interest. We lead federally funded research and development centers for U.S. government agencies, collaborating with industry and academia to deliver integrated, high-impact solutions. The Systems Integration Department is seeking an Associate Systems Engineer to support government sponsors in architecting, analyzing, integrating, and advancing complex mission and enterprise systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support government sponsors in architecting, analyzing, integrating, and advancing complex mission and enterprise systems.
  • Apply Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Systems Integration, Executable MBSE, Architecture Analysis, and Digital Engineering methods.
  • Develop, evaluate, and evolve system architectures.
  • Translate mission needs into integrated architectural solutions, engineering analyses, digital engineering artifacts, and actionable recommendations.
  • Model architectures of complex systems using standards-based frameworks and languages (e.g., UAF, SysML, UML).
  • Develop executable systems engineering models that verify and validate end-user needs.
  • Design and develop prototypes, dashboards, and/or plugins using Java, Python, and related programming languages.
  • Perform System Integration activities, potentially including application of industry standards like MOSA (e.g., OMS, UCI, FACE) and setting up executable models to verify and validate interfaces.
  • Assist in evaluating architectures using qualitative and quantitative techniques.
  • Advise government sponsors and program managers on architecture strategies, digital engineering transformation, technology insertion opportunities, system modernization approaches, technical roadmaps, and engineering decisions.
  • Serve as a technical leader and mentor by providing guidance, feedback, and knowledge sharing to junior engineers.

Requirements & Tech Stack

  • Experience with systems engineering methodologies.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage system requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce logical and functional system designs (system structure, behaviors, and data flows).
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, or other modeling and data analysis software tools.
  • Interest in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) concepts and tools.
  • Strong communication skills with demonstrated experience briefing senior government or senior customer stakeholders.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S Government issued Security Clearance.
  • U.S. Citizen (required for security clearance eligibility).

  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Hands-on experience with MBSE tools and environments; CATIA Magic / Cameo experience preferred.
  • Experience in data architecture for complex systems.
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools and processes.
  • Knowledge of systems architecture and systems design and development.
  • Understanding of modern Systems Engineering methods.
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary modeling and simulation (physics-level, engineering-level and/or operational-level).
  • Proficiency in one or more of the programming languages for quantitative analyses (e.g., MATLAB, R, Python).
  • Interest and/or experience designing Autonomous Systems.
  • Experience with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) concepts and tools.
