Scientist, Chemical Process Development
Bristol Myers Squibb
About the Role
Bristol Myers Squibb's Chemical Process Development (CPD) team comprises organic chemists, analytical chemists, and chemical engineers focused on designing novel syntheses from raw materials to supply new medicines. CPD scientists develop safe, economical, sustainable, and robust processes to support clinical trials and the launch of new medicines across various drug modalities including small molecules, peptides, oligonucleotides, and antibody drug conjugates.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for route scouting and the design and implementation of safe, efficient, and robust chemical processes for the synthesis of drug candidates.
- Gather and determine fundamental process knowledge, scale and transition such processes to manufacturing.
- Design and execute experiments in line with portfolio program strategy.
- Analyze, compile, and share experimental data with project teams and management.
- Develop the fundamental process knowledge needed to support the transition of processes from labs to clinical supply, regulatory filings, and manufacturing vendors.
- Collaborate closely with Analytical Chemistry and engineering teams to develop knowledge and controls for the successful supply of clinical materials and characterization of key compounds.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Strong background in the theory and practice of synthetic organic chemistry.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Thorough understanding of synthetic methods and reaction mechanisms.
- Expertise in the purification and characterization of organic compounds, including Chromatography, NMR, MS, and IR spectroscopy.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Desire to work in a collaborative team environment.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in organic chemistry or a chemistry-related field with 0-3 years of additional related research experience.
- M.Sc. in organic chemistry or a chemistry-related field with 4-8 years of additional related research experience.
