About The Role
Peraton is seeking Spring & Summer 2027 Software Engineering Co-ops to support the County of San Diego Contract from January 2027 through August 2027. As Software Engineering Co-ops, students will build and prototype software that helps County departments work faster, using modern AI tools and AWS cloud services. You'll contribute code, test ideas quickly through rapid prototyping, and see your work move from concept to use in a live public-sector environment.
Co-op structure: 40 hours/week throughout the duration of the co-op, with a hybrid work arrangement.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and prototype software for County departments.
- Contribute code and test ideas through rapid prototyping.
- Modernize County services, including applying AI to software design, building, and delivery.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- US Citizenship
- HS Diploma and some advanced level training.
- Current undergrad or graduate student pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or related field.
- Coursework or project experience programming in Python or Java.
- Understanding of object-oriented programming.
- Understanding of version control (Git).
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with .NET/C#.
- Exposure to AWS services (Bedrock, CodeCommit, Lambda) or other cloud platforms.
- Experience building with generative AI APIs (e.g., Claude) or AI coding tools (e.g., Kiro).
- Familiarity with JIRA or ServiceNow.
- Hackathon, personal, or open-source projects demonstrating rapid prototyping.
