About Betasouls

Betasouls is an AI simulation company exploring autonomous virtual life and the worlds it inhabits. Our game and simulation work brings together engineering, interactive experiences, and systems that give virtual creatures their own behavior.

Role Overview

We’re looking for a Game / Simulation Engineering Intern with a foundation in Unity and C#, a love of games, and curiosity about how simulated worlds work. You’ll help turn product and design ideas into working interactive features, collaborating closely with engineering and product. We value people who can ask useful questions, break an ambiguous requirement into manageable tasks, and follow an idea through implementation, testing, and iteration. This opening is specifically for our Game / Simulation track.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate product and simulation requirements into clear engineering tasks, with guidance from the team.
  • Build and iterate on Unity features, game logic, creature behavior, and interactions between entities and their environment.
  • Help connect simulation systems to interactive scenes and user-facing feedback.
  • Debug behavior, test edge cases, and improve performance and reliability.
  • Contribute to interface and system design discussions and document implementation decisions.
  • Collaborate with English- and Mandarin-speaking engineering and product stakeholders.

Requirements & Tech Stack

  • Practical Unity experience through coursework, personal projects, game jams, or previous work.
  • A foundation in C#, programming fundamentals, and structured problem-solving.
  • Ability to break complex or loosely defined requirements into concrete implementation steps.
  • Genuine interest in games, simulation, and how rules and individual behaviors shape an interactive world.
  • Ability to read technical materials and participate in technical and product discussions in Mandarin Chinese.
  • Clear communication and a willingness to write concise technical documentation.
  • Ability to work onsite in Irvine, California, for at least 20 hours per week.

Nice to Have

  • A playable Unity project, prototype, GitHub repository, or short development demo.
  • Experience with game AI, state machines, pathfinding, simulation, procedural systems, or real-time interaction.
  • Familiarity with Git, debugging, profiling, or automated testing.
  • An interest in game design, interaction design, or visual feedback.
  • Experience collaborating in a bilingual or distributed team.

What You’ll Gain

  • Hands-on experience developing game and simulation features.
  • Collaboration across engineering and product, from requirements to implementation and iteration.
  • Practice reasoning about system behavior, technical tradeoffs, and interactive experiences.
  • Opportunities to contribute ideas and learn through real development work.

Application Instructions

Please include your resume and, if available, a link to a project, repository, or short demo. Tell us briefly what you built, what you contributed, and why AI simulation interests you. Coursework and personal projects are welcome.

Work Authorization & Visa Support

  • CPT/OPT candidates are welcome.
  • Visa sponsorship is available, subject to individual eligibility and applicable requirements.
