About the Role

We are searching for a Mineral Processing Analyst in the early stages of their career. This role suits someone who is curious, numerate, and detail-oriented, and wants to understand not just how a plant works, but what it costs and why. You will split your time between Sherpa Mineral Processing, Costmine's first-principles cost model for processing plants, and Woody, our platform delivering real-time mine economics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Model Development: Maintain and extend Sherpa Mineral Processing, including new flowsheets, equipment, and cost relationships.
  • Asset Coverage: Extract processing parameters (throughput, head grade, recovery, flowsheet) from technical reports and translate them into Woody inputs.
  • Quality Assurance: Check model outputs for reasonableness and consistency, and document the engineering logic behind them.
  • Product Collaboration: Work with our developers and product team to turn engineering logic into clear software requirements.
  • Client Support: Help explain processing cost results to clients and the commercial team.

Key Knowledge & Tools

  • Process Engineering: Comminution, flotation, gravity, leaching (heap leach, CIL/CIP), SX-EW, thickening, filtration, and tailings.
  • Cost Estimation: Equipment sizing, capital and operating cost build-ups, reagents, consumables, and power consumption.
  • Mining Economics: Technical reports (NI 43-101, JORC, S-K 1300), PEA/PFS/FS studies, NPV, IRR, and cash cost metrics.
  • Analysis: Advanced Excel; Python or SQL are a plus.
  • Collaboration: Linear, Slack, Microsoft 365.

Qualifications

  • Technical Foundation: Degree in metallurgical, chemical, mineral processing, or mining engineering (or a related discipline).
  • Practical Exposure: Experience at an operation, in a met lab, with an EPCM firm, or an equipment vendor (co-op and internship experience counts).
  • Ready for the Desk: Desire to build a career in analysis, modeling, and mining economics.
  • Strong with Numbers: Confidence in building and checking spreadsheet models.
  • Curious About Data & AI: Interest in how software and AI are changing engineering work.
  • Ownership Mentality: Takes responsibility for work quality, communicates clearly, and asks good questions.
