Associate Software Engineer

About the Role

Garner is transforming the U.S. healthcare system by partnering with employers to redesign how healthcare works. We apply clinical metrics to large datasets to identify high-performing doctors and use incentives to steer members to better care, resulting in improved outcomes and lower costs.

Key Responsibilities

• Use AI to build, optimize, and maintain software systems.
• Collaborate across disciplines to understand users and iterate on new ideas.
• Protect user privacy and security through secure coding practices.
• Participate in code reviews, sharing insights and learning from others.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Recent graduate (Spring 2026) or currently enrolled student (expected graduation Fall 2026 or Spring 2027).
• Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science or a related STEM field.
• Solid CS fundamentals.
• Experience in front-end (JavaScript, React) or back-end (Python, Node.js) technologies.
• Experience with a database system such as PostgreSQL or ElasticSearch.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Docker) is a plus.
• Exposure to building with AI coding agents (Claude Code) is a plus.
• Track record of shipping high-quality features through internships or personal projects.
• Strong technical writing, analytical, and communication skills.

Technologies used include: Claude Code, Kubernetes, AWS, Airflow, dlt, dbt, Python, TypeScript, React, Go.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in a degree program with expected graduation in Fall 2026 or Spring 2027, or recent graduation in Spring 2026.
• Degree in Computer Science or a related STEM field.
• Foundational knowledge in Computer Science.
• Practical experience with either front-end (JavaScript, React) or back-end (Python, Node.js) development.
• Experience with database systems like PostgreSQL or ElasticSearch.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS and containerization tools like Docker.
• Previous work with AI coding agents is beneficial.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver quality features via internships or personal projects.
• Excellent technical writing, analytical, and communication skills.
• Enthusiasm for working on challenging problems with measurable outcomes.
