iOS Developer
SMARTFOX
About the Role
As an iOS Developer at SMARTFOX, you will design, build, and ship native iOS apps in Swift and SwiftUI (and UIKit where it makes sense) that people use every day. You will turn product ideas and Figma designs into polished, accessible, high-performance features, from first prototype to App Store release.
Key Responsibilities
- Build clean, testable architecture using MVVM, Clean Architecture, or TCA, with modular code that scales across teams.
- Integrate REST and GraphQL APIs, WebSockets, push notifications, and third-party SDKs, and handle offline sync and error states gracefully.
- Use Swift Concurrency (async/await, actors), Combine, Core Data, SwiftData, and Core Location, HealthKit, StoreKit, or other Apple frameworks as the product needs.
- Write unit, UI, and snapshot tests (XCTest, XCUITest, Quick/Nimble) and keep CI/CD pipelines healthy with Xcode Cloud, Fastlane, GitHub Actions, or Bitrise.
- Profile and tune launch time, memory, battery, and rendering with Instruments, and track crashes and stability in Firebase Crashlytics, Sentry, or Datadog.
- Own App Store Connect releases, TestFlight betas, phased rollouts, feature flags, and A/B tests.
- Build with accessibility (VoiceOver, Dynamic Type), localization, privacy, and Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines in mind.
- Support security and compliance needs such as Keychain, biometrics, certificate pinning, App Tracking Transparency, and, where relevant, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, or SOC 2.
- Use AI-assisted tools (Xcode’s predictive code completion, Copilot, Claude, or similar) carefully to speed up boilerplate, tests, and debugging, with your own judgment and code review on everything you ship.
- Review pull requests, share knowledge, and collaborate daily with product, design, Android, backend, and QA teammates.
- Stay current with new iOS releases, WWDC announcements, and emerging tech like Swift 6, visionOS, and on-device ML.
Experience Levels
- iOS Developer I / Junior: 0-2 years of experience. Focus on well-scoped features, bug fixes, tests, and UI polish, learning with a dedicated mentor and a clear path to mid-level.
- iOS Developer II: 2-5 years of experience. Owning features end to end, contributing to architecture decisions, improving app performance and quality, and mentoring newer developers.
- Senior iOS Developer: 5+ years of experience. Setting app architecture and standards, leading major initiatives and releases, driving technical decisions across teams, and growing the iOS practice.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Solid knowledge of Swift, iOS app lifecycle, and core Apple frameworks.
- Understanding of data structures, networking, and concurrency.
- Hands-on experience from a job, internship, bootcamp, open-source work, or apps you built yourself (App Store apps, side projects, and hackathon builds count).
- Familiarity with Git, code review, and agile team workflows.
- A product mindset: you care how the app feels in a real user’s hands.
- Clear communication in writing and in team discussions.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience. We care about what you can build.
