About Feynman Research Community
Feynman Research Community (FRC) is an international, open-access research network connecting 2,000+ members across Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Quantitative Finance, Mathematics, Physics, and other STEM disciplines. Our mission is to make research more accessible by facilitating collaborative projects, peer mentorship, interdisciplinary learning, and academic knowledge sharing. We are inviting applications for the position of Research Mentor under the Feynman Research Fellowship (FRF). This opportunity is intended for individuals who can lead research projects and mentor aspiring researchers through the process of conducting and communicating scientific research.
Role Overview
As a Research Mentor, you will design and lead a research project within your area of expertise and guide a cohort of five mentees through the research lifecycle, from identifying a research problem to preparing a manuscript for submission to a suitable peer-reviewed journal or conference. You will be responsible for providing technical guidance, coordinating team activities, reviewing research outputs, and maintaining a collaborative and academically rigorous research environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Research Proposal Development: Formulate an original, feasible research proposal with clearly defined objectives, research questions, methodology, and expected outcomes.
- Research Team Leadership: Lead a cohort of five mentees, delegate responsibilities, establish milestones, and monitor project progress.
- Literature Review: Guide mentees in reviewing existing literature, identifying research gaps, and developing research hypotheses or questions.
- Methodology and Experimentation: Supervise research design, implementation, data analysis, experimental validation, and comparisons with relevant baselines.
- Technical Mentorship: Provide feedback on code, models, datasets, mathematical formulations, and experimental results, where applicable.
- Academic Writing: Guide manuscript development, citation practices, LaTeX or Word formatting, and the presentation of research findings.
- Publication Preparation: Help identify suitable journals or conferences and guide the team through manuscript submission and subsequent revisions.
- Research Coordination: Facilitate regular check-ins and asynchronous discussions through the official Feynman Research Community Discord server.
- Research Integrity: Promote reproducibility, responsible use of data and AI tools, proper attribution, and ethical authorship practices.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Strong knowledge of at least one relevant research domain, such as AI/ML, Deep Learning, NLP, Computer Vision, Data Science, Quantitative Finance, Mathematics, Physics, or related STEM fields.
- Familiarity with research methodology, experimental design, literature reviews, and scientific writing.
- Experience with research projects, technical publications, open-source projects, or substantial domain-specific work.
- The ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and mentor students with varying levels of experience.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to coordinate a small research team remotely.
- Availability for asynchronous communication and periodic project check-ins.
Qualifications
Preferred candidates: PhD scholars, academic researchers, research assistants, university faculty, postgraduate researchers, and industry professionals with relevant research experience. Candidates with demonstrated research capabilities and strong technical portfolios are encouraged to apply.
Engagement Details
- Work Mode: Fully remote
- Geographic Eligibility: Open to applicants worldwide
- Employment Type: Volunteer / Internship
- Compensation: Unpaid
- Research Domains: AI/ML, Deep Learning, NLP, Computer Vision, Data Science, Quantitative Finance, Mathematics, Physics, and related disciplines
This is a volunteer-based initiative. Research publication or acceptance is not guaranteed and depends on the quality of the work, peer review, and the decisions of the relevant publication venue. Mentors are expected to support rigorous research practices and realistic project planning.
Application Process
Interested candidates must submit their CV and a research proposal outlining their proposed research problem, objectives, methodology, feasibility, and expected contributions.
