Swim Aide

About the Role

• Position Type: Non-Exempt (Hourly)
• Compensation: $15.50 - $17.00 / hour
• Location: Charlestown YMCA

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, this position is responsible for assisting certified YSL Aquatic Instructors during lessons. This position will work only under the supervision of a YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist aquatics instructors during swim classes.
• Be prepared for class. Have all equipment available and ready prior to swim class. Assist in putting away all equipment after swim classes.
• Maintain a professional image and manner consistent with the YMCA mission and goals at all times.
• Ensure a clean and safe pool environment at all times.
• Engage in active listening with members to build relationships, understand individual goals and interests, and assist in achieving those goals.
• Attend mandatory monthly in-service training.
• Attend mandatory twice per year association trainings.
• May be required to work one on one with individual students during group classes.
• All other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Age: 15 years of age to 15 years and 11 months of age.
• Certification: YASA (YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant) Certification.

Qualifications

• No experience necessary.
• Physically and verbally able to interact with members and staff.
• May be required to be in the pool for an extended period of time.
• At times, be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment

• The noise level is usually moderate to high.
• Shifts vary, but may include early mornings, nights, and weekends.
