New Graduate Project Engineer I

About the Role

Timmons Group is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Civil Project Engineer I for its Richmond, VA office's Transportation Design group. This role is an entry-level position in civil engineering focused on transportation design.

Key Responsibilities

• Design horizontal alignments and vertical profiles for roadway widening and improvement projects.
• Develop 3D models and plans using AutoDesk Civil 3D and/or Bentley OpenRoads Designer.
• Create visualizations for client and public presentations using 3D software.
• Prepare detailed plan sheets and complete project submission packages.
• Perform roadway and drainage calculations using engineering software and reference materials.
• Assist in preparing engineering and construction cost estimates.
• Research and utilize open-source GIS data for project planning.
• Conduct field observations and data collection to support design discussions.
• Stay current with emerging technologies to enhance team capabilities.
• Participate in client and contractor meetings to support project delivery.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related degree with coursework in transportation/traffic preferred.
• EIT preferred.
• Experience with Bentley OpenRoads Designer and/or AutoDesk Civil 3D (preferred).
• Familiarity with VDOT standards and procedures (preferred).
