About the Role

The Software Engineer, New Grad joins Harvey's Engineering team, working alongside experienced engineers to build AI-powered systems for leading law firms and enterprises. The team's mission is to deliver secure, intuitive, and high-performance application-layer experiences that turn frontier AI capabilities into real customer value. This role offers an accelerated path to ownership, contributing production code to features spanning retrieval, document intelligence, and workflow automation from day one. It is an opportunity to develop rapidly at the intersection of AI and professional services, with direct exposure to how engineers shape a category-defining product.

Harvey is hiring new grads to start in 2027 across multiple teams and roles, including Frontend, Backend, Full-Stack, Infrastructure, and Applied AI. Your interests and experience will be factored into team matching.

What You'll Do

  • Design, implement, and ship production-level code across the stack while maintaining high quality, reliability, and security standards. Use AI-assisted development tools daily and own the quality of all shipped code.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including AI Research, Legal Engineering, Product, and Design to translate problem statements into compelling product experiences.
  • Collaborate with your team through code reviews, technical design discussions, and engineering best-practice development alongside senior and staff engineers.
  • Experiment with and evaluate cutting-edge LLMs and AI systems, contributing to the evolution of Harvey's platform.
  • Depending on your team, you could work on retrieval over large document collections, interfaces for collaborating with AI systems, multi-region compute infrastructure, enterprise agents, or secure systems for sensitive client data.

Requirements & Tech Stack

  • Technical foundation: Strong proficiency in one or more languages (Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Java, Go, or similar) and solid general computer science knowledge.
  • Decisiveness: Bias toward action; experience building something start to finish in coursework, a personal project, or a past internship.
  • Simplicity: Ability to explain complex technical ideas in plain language; look for the simplest solution that works.
  • Job's Not Finished: Proactively seek out feedback, act on it, and keep pushing after the assignment is technically complete.
  • AI Forward: Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and curious about building LLMs into your own coding workflow.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, graduated either in Winter 2026 - Spring 2027.
  • Able to work from our New York or San Francisco office starting in January 2027 and beyond. Relocation support is available.
  • Previous internship experience is required.
  • Past internship experience at an early-stage startup is a plus.

Compensation

$165,000 - $181,500
