About the Role
ASM is seeking a motivated Field Process Engineer Intern to gain hands-on experience supporting process development, optimization, qualification, and troubleshooting activities for advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment. You will work alongside experienced process and field engineers and collaborate with customer engineering teams and global product and R&D organizations. You will gain exposure to how semiconductor processes move from development through qualification and manufacturing while contributing to meaningful technical projects.
Key Responsibilities
Process Development & Engineering
- Support process development, optimization, characterization, and troubleshooting activities on semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
- Assist with the design, execution, and analysis of experiments to evaluate process performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Analyze experimental and process data to identify trends, relationships, and potential areas for optimization.
- Gain hands-on exposure to thin-film deposition, semiconductor processing, vacuum systems, equipment operation, and process characterization.
- Investigate process and equipment issues using structured problem-solving techniques.
- Support process and hardware improvement projects focused on performance, repeatability, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Participate in equipment evaluations, process qualifications, and engineering testing activities.
- Document experimental results, technical findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
- Contribute to a defined internship project that addresses a real process engineering or semiconductor manufacturing challenge.
Technology & Knowledge Development
- Learn how new semiconductor processes and technologies transition from R&D into qualification and manufacturing environments.
- Assist with collecting and documenting process learnings, experimental results, and best-known methods.
- Gain exposure to the interaction between process engineering, equipment hardware, materials, device requirements, and manufacturing.
- Collaborate with engineers across different technical disciplines and locations.
- Develop an understanding of how process knowledge is documented and transferred across engineering organizations.
Customer & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Gain exposure to a customer-facing engineering environment and learn how field engineers partner with semiconductor manufacturers.
- Participate in technical discussions and project meetings with experienced engineers.
- Help prepare technical data, experiment summaries, reports, and presentations.
- Learn how engineers communicate complex technical findings to cross-functional audiences.
- Build relationships with process, equipment, product, R&D, service, and customer engineering teams.
Requirements & Tech Stack
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Physical Chemistry, or a related technical discipline.
