Medical Coding Intern, India

About the Role

Skillzenloop is looking for a detail-oriented Medical Coding Intern who is interested in healthcare documentation, medical terminology, and clinical data management. The selected candidate will gain exposure to medical coding concepts, healthcare records, and documentation workflows while developing an understanding of how medical information is organised and classified for administrative and billing purposes.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in reviewing medical records and clinical documentation for completeness and accuracy.
• Learn the fundamentals of medical coding and healthcare classification systems.
• Understand the application of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding concepts under appropriate guidance.
• Assist in identifying relevant diagnoses, procedures, and medical terminology in documentation.
• Support the organisation and verification of healthcare information.
• Identify missing, inconsistent, or unclear information in medical records and flag it for review.
• Maintain accurate records while following established documentation procedures.
• Assist in checking coding information against approved guidelines and reference materials.
• Learn the basic relationship between clinical documentation, medical coding, and healthcare billing.
• Support quality checks and documentation review activities.
• Follow confidentiality requirements when handling sensitive healthcare information.
• Participate in training activities related to medical terminology and coding practices.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Basic computer skills and familiarity with spreadsheets.
• Access to a computer and a reliable internet connection.

Qualifications

• Basic understanding of healthcare terminology is beneficial.
• Interest in medical coding, healthcare administration, and clinical documentation.
• Good reading comprehension and attention to detail.
• Ability to review information carefully and follow established guidelines.
• Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology is an advantage.
• Familiarity with ICD-10-CM or CPT coding systems is beneficial but not mandatory.
• Strong organisational and analytical skills.
• Willingness to learn healthcare documentation and coding procedures.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and work responsibly with healthcare information.

Eligibility Criteria

• Candidates pursuing or holding a degree or diploma in Life Sciences, Nursing, Pharmacy, Allied Health Sciences, Biotechnology, Zoology, or a related healthcare discipline.
• Candidates with relevant medical coding training or healthcare administration knowledge.
• Freshers and entry-level candidates.
