Associate AI Developer

About the Role

St. Onge Company's Application Development team builds and maintains internal tools for consultants and staff. This role is at the center of St. Onge's AI strategy, transforming how the company uses AI. It's an entry-level developer position for someone curious about AI and its practical applications, aiming to build better tools faster. This role also involves leading broader AI adoption by finding, evaluating, and rolling out AI tools to enhance efficiency for engineering and administrative teams.

Key Responsibilities

AI Discovery and Implementation

• Contribute to AI efforts by sharing ideas, defining processes, setting priorities, documenting best practices, and becoming an AI resource.
• Research and evaluate AI tools, models, and platforms against business needs, recommending adoption, piloting, or skipping.
• Build proofs of concept and production integrations for workflows, including LLM-powered features, document processing, and automation.
• Collaborate with engineering and administrative teams to identify repetitive or time-consuming tasks suitable for AI reduction.
• Build and extend AI-powered automations and solutions within Microsoft 365, including Copilot, Copilot Studio, Copilot Cowork, SharePoint, Power Automate, and Teams.
• Assist with company-wide rollout of AI tools, including setup, documentation, training materials, and hands-on support.
• Track adoption and impact to measure effectiveness.
• Adhere to data security, privacy, and responsible-use practices, especially with client data.

Application Development

• Develop and maintain features in the internal web platform using React, Node.js/Express, and Django.
• Write and optimize SQL Server queries and stored procedures, including work with ERP data.
• Assist in researching database strategy, including cloud migration.
• Support deployments, testing, and troubleshooting in an IIS-hosted, Azure AD-authenticated environment.
• Support reporting needs in Power BI where AI or automation can be beneficial.

Requirements & Tech Stack

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Working knowledge of at least one modern programming language: JavaScript/TypeScript or Python.
• Exposure to web frameworks such as React, Node.js, or Django (through coursework, projects, or internships).
• Basic SQL skills.
• Familiarity with Microsoft 365 tools: SharePoint, Teams, and Power Automate.
• Hands-on experience using AI tools (e.g., LLM chat assistants, coding assistants, AI APIs) and a genuine interest in their workplace application.
• Clear communication skills for explaining technical concepts to non-technical colleagues.
• Willingness to learn quickly and work independently on open-ended problems.

Nice to Have

• Experience calling LLM APIs, writing production prompts, or building simple agents/automations.
• Experience building Power Automate flows, Power Apps, or SharePoint solutions, or working with Microsoft Copilot or Copilot Studio.
• Familiarity with SQL Server, Azure and Azure AD, or IIS.
• Exposure to Power BI and DAX.
• Experience with other modern languages: C# or Go.
• Git and basic CI/CD experience.
• Interest in supply chain, logistics, or consulting.

Work Schedule & Environment

• Typical hours: Monday – Friday 8am-5pm.
• Hybrid and remote office options available.
• Projects may involve lifting materials up to 20 lbs.
