Next: put it in the free resume builder or write stronger bullets.

How to use it

  1. Choose summary or objective, then type the role you're applying for.
  2. Pick your level: student, new grad, 1–3 years, or career changer.
  3. Add your top three skills and, if you have one, an achievement with a number.
  4. Copy the version you like, edit it so it sounds like you, and paste it in your resume.

Resume summary or resume objective?

A summary says who you are and what you bring: skills, experience, and a result. An objective says what role you want and what you'd offer. For most entry-level applicants a short summary that names the target role does both jobs. Use an objective if you're a student seeking an internship or changing careers and need to state the goal outright.

How long should it be?

Two or three lines, 25 to 50 words. Recruiters skim, and a long paragraph at the top gets skipped. Put the target job title in the first line, since both people and applicant tracking systems look for it.

What to avoid

Words that describe you without proof: hard-working, results-driven, team player, passionate. Claims you can't back up. “I” statements. Say what you can do and show one result instead. The free resume improver flags these clichés.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a summary on my resume?

It's optional for most entry-level resumes. It helps most when your experience doesn't obviously point at the job you want, as for career changers, or when you want to name the role you're targeting.

What is the difference between a resume summary and an objective?

A summary highlights what you bring: skills and results. An objective states the role you want and how you'd contribute. New grads and career changers often use a short objective-style summary.

How do I write a resume summary with no experience?

Name your target role, your strongest two or three skills, and one project, class or job where you used them. “Recent graduate with hands-on SQL and Excel from two analytics projects” is specific enough.

Is this resume summary generator AI?

No. It fills tested templates with the words you enter, so nothing is invented. Review each line and keep only what's true.

Should the summary use “I”?

No. Resume summaries leave out first-person pronouns. Write “Recent graduate with…” rather than “I am a recent graduate with…”.
