API Gateway Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for an API Gateway Engineer to join the Enterprise Engineering API Capability team, responsible for supporting and modernizing the organization's API ecosystem. The successful candidate will work with Engineering, Enterprise Architecture, and Delivery teams to drive strategic API transformation initiatives, support critical business services, and help achieve the organization's API modernization objectives. The role requires strong technical expertise in API management, API gateways, and integration technologies, with a particular focus on Broadcom Layer7 API Gateway, Google Apigee, and related API ecosystem components.

Key Responsibilities

• Support and enhance the enterprise API ecosystem across multiple platforms, including Broadcom Layer7 and Apigee.
• Lead and contribute to migration initiatives aimed at transitioning APIs from legacy Layer7 implementations to modern API management platforms and architectures.
• Perform API legacy remediation activities, including redesign, refactoring, standardization, and modernization of existing services.
• Collaborate with application, integration, security, architecture, and platform teams to deliver scalable, secure, and reusable API solutions.
• Provide advanced technical analysis and troubleshooting support for critical API platform incidents and complex production issues.
• Assist development teams with API design, best practices, governance standards, and onboarding to the enterprise API ecosystem.
• Support automation, CI/CD integration, infrastructure-as-code, and operational excellence initiatives across API platforms.
• Contribute to API platform governance, security, observability, and lifecycle management practices.
• Identify opportunities for platform optimization, technical debt reduction, and continuous improvement across the API landscape.
• Participate in a global support model and collaborate effectively with geographically distributed teams.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Strong experience with enterprise API management platforms, including Broadcom Layer7 API Gateway and/or Google Apigee.
• Experience designing, developing, securing, and supporting RESTful APIs and microservice-based architectures.
• Proven experience with API migration, modernization, and legacy remediation initiatives.
• Strong understanding of API security standards, including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, TLS, and certificate management.
• Experience with API governance, lifecycle management, and developer enablement practices.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automation frameworks, containerized environments, and cloud-native deployment models.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Expert knowledge in Cloud technologies, e.g., AWS, Azure.
• Exposure to Networks, Databases, Security, Application & Infrastructure design.
• Proven track record of supporting Login solutions and linked technologies.
• Exposure to Monitoring Tools and Solutions to support Security Infrastructure (e.g., CA APM, AppDynamics, ITCAM, New Relic).
• Development experience on one of the languages: JAVA, Perl, C++, .NET, PHP, JavaScript.
