Content Researcher
AgResearch Labs
About the Role
As a Content Researcher, you will identify relevant topics, investigate what audiences and markets care about, and turn your findings into thoughtful, well-written content. You'll explore market needs, industry developments, audience questions, emerging conversations and content trends to understand what is worth saying, who it is for and how best to communicate it. The role is not limited to writing from a brief. We want someone who can help identify the brief in the first place: someone who can research independently, connect ideas, analyse what works across different channels and develop content that is useful, relevant and engaging.
Key Responsibilities
- Market, Audience & Topic Research
- Stay curious about developments in the market, industry news, customer needs, audience conversations and emerging trends relevant to AgResearch Labs (ARL).
- Research topics using credible sources, reports, articles, interviews, social platforms, search trends and other relevant inputs.
- Identify the questions, challenges, misconceptions and interests that matter to our audiences.
- Separate meaningful signals from passing trends, and explain why a topic is relevant to ARL and its audience.
- Build a pipeline of researched topics, angles and content opportunities.
- Content Ideation & Writing
- Turn research and insights into clear, engaging written content across formats such as educational explainers, articles, thought pieces, anecdotes, social posts, newsletters and website content.
- Develop strong angles, hooks and narratives rather than simply summarising information.
- Adapt the depth, tone, structure and format of content to the intended audience and channel.
- Translate technical or complex ideas into accessible content without losing accuracy or nuance.
- Work with internal subject-matter experts to validate information and uncover useful stories, examples and perspectives.
- Content Analysis & Performance Learning
- Study content from relevant brands, creators, publications and competitors to understand what earns attention, builds trust and drives engagement.
- Analyse available performance signals — such as reach, engagement, saves, shares, clicks, search visibility or reader feedback — to understand what is working and why.
- Use evidence and audience response to refine topics, formats, distribution choices and future content ideas.
- Develop hypotheses, test different angles and document learnings rather than relying only on intuition.
- Understand that different channels and audiences need different approaches; content that works in one place may not work in another.
- Research Quality & Collaboration
- Verify facts, check sources and maintain a clear distinction between evidence, interpretation and opinion.
- Keep research organised, with source links, key findings and useful context that others can review.
- Collaborate with the marketing, business and technical teams to align content with business priorities and audience needs.
- Manage multiple topics and deadlines while maintaining accuracy and writing quality.
- Use AI and research tools thoughtfully to improve efficiency, while independently verifying claims and adding original judgment.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Strong curiosity about markets, people, industries and why certain ideas or stories resonate.
- Good research and analytical instincts — the ability to find credible information, connect dots, spot patterns and draw useful conclusions.
- Clear, engaging writing with the ability to explain ideas simply and adapt to different formats.
- An understanding that effective content starts with audience needs and a clear purpose, not just a trending topic.
- The ability to assess what content works, for whom, on which platform and why — using both qualitative judgment and available data.
- Initiative to suggest topics and angles, ask questions and develop ideas without waiting for a fully defined brief.
- Attention to detail, factual accuracy and a willingness to revise work based on feedback and evidence.
- Comfort working in a fast-moving environment where content priorities and business needs can evolve.
Qualifications
- Prior experience as a content researcher, content writer, journalist, editorial researcher, market researcher or in a related role is good to have, but not mandatory.
- Strong writing samples, research projects, personal publications or other evidence of your ability to think and communicate well are welcome.
- Good to have: Experience with digital content, SEO, social media analytics, audience research, industry publications or content planning.
- Good to have: Familiarity with agriculture, food systems, sustainability, climate, technology or deep-tech topics.
- Good to have: Comfort using spreadsheets, analytics dashboards and AI-assisted research tools.
