About the Role

The Data Logging Engineer supports durability testing by developing, configuring, and maintaining data logging systems and vehicle instrumentation. The role partners with durability engineers, test operations, data customers, suppliers, and other technical teams to define test data needs and deliver effective data collection solutions. The engineer interfaces data logging devices with vehicle networks and test peripherals, helps manage the supporting server environment, and resolves issues that could affect test execution or data quality. Candidates should be comfortable taking ownership of technical problems, researching solutions, and moving work forward independently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program, configure, and support data logging devices used in durability testing.
  • Design instrumentation plans and data collection setups to meet test and customer requirements.
  • Interface data logging systems with vehicle networks, including CAN, LIN, and Automotive Ethernet.
  • Integrate and troubleshoot sensors and test peripherals, including thermocouples, accelerometers, and analog and digital I/O.
  • Coordinate data logging device programming, server support, and related technical needs with suppliers and internal teams.
  • Work directly with data customers to understand requirements, communicate system capabilities, and resolve data collection issues.
  • Support the interface between data logging systems and test peripherals or other test equipment.
  • Troubleshoot instrumentation, communications, hardware, and software issues; identify and implement solutions to protect test execution and data quality.
  • Document system configurations, instrumentation designs, programming changes, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Support system improvements and help develop repeatable, efficient data logging processes.

Requirements & Tech Stack

  • Experience with data acquisition or data logging systems, including device programming, configuration, or troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with automotive communication protocols, including CAN, LIN, and Automotive Ethernet.
  • Experience interfacing data acquisition devices with sensors and signals such as thermocouples, accelerometers, analog inputs, and digital I/O.
  • Experience with data logging or analysis tools such as Intrepid, CANalyzer, Aptiv, Dewesoft, or similar platforms; equivalent demonstrated programming experience will also be considered.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle platforms & architecture.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to research unfamiliar issues and develop practical solutions.
  • Self-starter who can take ownership of tasks and work effectively with limited oversight.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills when working with test customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to document technical work clearly and manage multiple priorities.
