Job Title: Newspaper Page Designer (Night Shift)

About the Role

• Join the night desk of The Daily Tribune, a leading English-language newspaper in Bahrain.
• Lay out the daily print edition with a focus on the print deadline.
• This role requires regular work during evenings and late nights.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and lay out daily newspaper pages in Adobe InDesign, including front pages, news, business, sports, and features.
• Place stories, headlines, photos, captions, and ads according to house style and page plan.
• Prepare and edit images and graphics in Photoshop and Illustrator.
• Collaborate with the night editor and sub-editors to accommodate late-breaking stories and last-minute changes.
• Ensure pages are print-ready and sent on time, verifying correct fonts, colour, bleed, and resolution.
• Proof pages for layout errors, missing elements, and consistency before release.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Hands-on experience with Adobe InDesign (essential).
• Working knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in newspaper, magazine, or print layout. Please include samples.
• A strong eye for typography, grids, and visual hierarchy.
• Ability to work fast and accurately under deadline pressure.
• Good English to catch obvious errors in headlines and captions.
• Willingness to work night shifts on a regular basis.

Nice to have:

• Experience designing infographics, maps, or charts for news.
• Knowledge of print production and pre-press.
• Some digital design experience, such as social media graphics.
