About the Role
The HCA Healthcare Residency Program at Portsmouth Regional Hospital is a year-long, paid program designed to provide new graduate Registered Nurses (RNs) with hands-on experience, fostering the development of valuable clinical and critical thinking skills. As a Resident I Graduate Nurse, you will be part of a supportive community of nurse educators, experienced nurses, and fellow residents to facilitate the transition from student to registered nurse. The program offers advanced clinical training in a specialty area, monthly educational sessions, preceptorship training, simulation-based skill evaluation, and mentoring from experienced nurse leaders. Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver high-quality, patient-centered care consistent with state and specialty standards.
- Collaborate with medical providers and the care team to provide individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care.
- Act as an advocate for patients, families, and caregivers.
- Assess patient condition upon admission and each shift, identifying and reporting changes.
- Perform procedures, monitoring, and other functions as ordered by medical providers and document care.
- Administer prescribed medications and monitor patients for therapeutic and unintended responses, intervening as appropriate.
- Respond promptly to patient requests and proactively anticipate patient needs.
- Educate patients, families, and caregivers on medical conditions, treatment plans, medications, and follow-up care, translating complex medical terminology for clear understanding.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) obtained within 30 days of employment
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) obtained within 1 year of employment
- Other certifications may be required during employment.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program
- Registered Nurse License or Graduate Nurse in the State
- Some travel may be needed for training.
